Let It Go (2013), USA

In the film, Frozen, the song Let It Go is the most popular from the film. The song was composed by Kristen Anderson Lopez and Robert Lopez and was performed by Idina Menzel. It was released in the album, Frozen: Original Motion Picture Soundtrack 2013, but was released as single in 2014. The song won Best Original Song at the Academy Awards and Best Song Written for Visual Media at the Grammy Awards. The song is also one of the most globally recorded songs from Disney.

Background/Musical Elements

This song plays at a time where Elsa has left her kingdom and loses her powers to generate ice. She goes up into the mountains away from all and this is when she accepts herself and frees herself from royal expectations. She then creates her own castle and makes a living snowman. The lyrics refer to her going through the events that I just stated. She is referring to her past.

Elsa sings Let It Go and the song is referring to her royalty and her past. She doesn't want to be royal. She is accepting herself as she is, flawed and all, and is not looking back. Which is not nice because she the queen has left her people and left them in eternal winter and they need her to end the eternal winter. But the song does show that she is trying to be true to herself.

The lyrics in the song are very catchy, and the vocals that Idina Menzel has give great range. She can really sing in forte so well and in piano too. The percussion hold the beat and give the melody, I really enjoy listening to the high top. The piano plays the rhythm and it sounds just so elegant. In all this piece was so beautifully put together and the musical elements all go. The lyrics are catchy, the vocals are sang so stunningly in both forte and piano, the instruments tie it all together. I think it's a great song.

Deeper Meaning

I think the deeper meaning of the song is empowerment. The song tells us to love ourselves and be true to ourselves. To be authentic and determine who we are ourselves. I like the message of being true to oneself, I think that is powerful and is the deeper meaning behind this song.

Comments

  1. I love this song and everything that it represents. I think it's a fabulous lesson for children to learn- attempting to please someone when it comes at great personal loss isn't sustainable. You can only put on a false face for so long. When you are denying yourself authenticity, resentment surely grows and something will have to give. You cannot live your life for others. Not to mention the song itself is beautiful, catchy, and extremely well done. The best children's movies are movies that the whole family is able to enjoy, and this soundtrack does the lions share of the work there.
Thank you for your thoughts on this!
