The Role of the Performer-Beyonce

 Beyonce

Her musical career

Beyonce launched her fame as lead singer in a R&B group called, Destiny's child in the late 1990s. She then successfully launched her own career solo shortly after. The singer song writer launched her first solo album, Dangerously in Love(2003). Beyonce won 5 Grammy awards in 2004 along with best contemporary R&B album and best female R&B vocal performance. Destiny's child reunited once more to release Destiny Fulfilled. After that they officially went separate ways for good. In 2006 Beyonce went on to release her second solo album, B'day, Irreplacable, being the most successful song from the album. Later that year she released an album called, I am... Sasha Fierce. That album had many hits which led to her dominance in the 2010 Grammy awards. And according to Britannica, "Her six awards, which included those for song of the year, best female pop vocal performance, and best contemporary R&B album, amounted to the most Grammys collected by a female artist in a single night." To keep this shorter, I will just mention Beyonce's solo career. Beyonce was awarded another Grammy for her single, Love on Top. Her song, Drunk in Love, which featured her husband Jay-Z, won several Grammys including, best R&B song. Her album Lemonade(2016), won her two Grammys. And again, according to Britannica, "In 2018 Beyoncé and Jay-Z released a collaborative album, Everything Is Love, credited to the Carters, and it took the Grammy for best urban contemporary album." Talk about power couple! I have always loved Beyonce and her songs. Her vocals are my favorite.

First song

If I Were A Boy (2008), USA performed as the Grammys 2010

Here is the first song, If I Were A Boy composed by BC Jean and Toby Gad, released in 2008, USA. This is Beyonce performing live at the 52nd Annual Grammy Awards in 2010. Her entrance is powerful in the way she walks to the stage before performing her song. And the back up dancers being an army of men. She really performs so magically live. Her vocals provide a wide range and her vocal range pops out when she is singing the chorus of the song. As well as her stunning vocals, she sings forte so beautifully as well as piano. In the song, it has a variety of parts where she sings in piano and then in the chorus she sings with forte. Her voice is really just stunning and the fact that she can perform live so well even with walking and dancing during her performance goes to show how amazing of a performer she is naturally. And, according to Fandom, Chuck Taylor also praised her vocals in this song as well.

Second song

Formation (2016), USA performed during the super bowl halftime show 2016

Formation was composed by Beyonce herself along with Mike WiLL Made-it, Swae Lee, and Slim Jxmmi. She released this song 24 hours before she performed this song during the 2016 super bowl halftime show. With confirming to be Coldplay's guest for the super bowl, she released this song before all of the attention was going to be on her, and I think she makes a great statement with the song and the timing. She made this song and released it at a time where people were recognizing police brutality and it's also about just being black in an America during this time period. So all while being one of the top performers with her dancing, dress attire, hair and makeup, along with her skilled back up dancers, she also is bringing awareness about the police brutality that black people endure and what it means to be black. Which is so powerful, standing up for your people during a very public sports event. Just shows how brave she is and also the impact she can have on others with joining her. During this half time super bowl appearance, she has a drum line which enhances the performance with having live musicians. The rhythm of the beat in formation makes the song, it gives the song back up of making a statement. Her vocals again, are everything in this song as well. According to Caramanica with NY Times, Beyonce outshined Coldplay with her energetic performance. How can one sing so well and have such stunning vocals all while dancing and performing?! She is absolutely amazing.

Her role as a performer

Beyonce is known for performing, her raw singing, her dancing and having great back up dancers as well. Her appearance in how she dresses and her hair and makeup. She is absolutely confident in her performance and also gets the crowd involved. When she performs it is all so natural to her. You can tell that she spends a lot of time on perfecting her performance but at the same time it is all so natural to her. She is one of my favorites and she will always be one of the best performers out there!

Wrong person to feature

Hi all, I wanted to add to this blog post and let you guys know that I did this assignment wrong. I chose Beyonce who is a singer songwriter and I was supposed to choose someone that only performs and sings and that does not write their own music. So Beyonce sings and she writes her own music and was not a great choice for this assignment, as we were supposed to find someone that only sings and performs. Thanks for listening!
